Care & Safety
Your candle will burn beautifully if you follow these. It'll burn badly — or dangerously — if you don't.
Burn safely
Only burn in a heat-safe vessel on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep out of reach of children and pets, and away from draughts and anything flammable. Trim the wick to about 1cm before lighting. Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings and matches. Don't burn for more than 4 hours at a time, and never move it while lit or while the wax is liquid. Stop burning once about 10mm of wax remains.
Before every burn
- Trim the wick to about 10mm. Long wicks smoke and burn through wax fast.
- Use a heat-safe vessel on a heat-safe surface. No untreated wood, fabric or plastic. A ceramic plate or trivet works.
- Clear a 30cm radius. No curtains, books, overhanging shelves, or pets within reach.
While burning
- First burn: let the pool spread. Burn until the melted wax reaches the edge of your vessel so it pools evenly next time.
- No more than 4 hours at a stretch. Let it cool for an hour before relighting.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended. Not even to the next room. Never asleep.
After burning
- Snuff, don't blow. Blowing can spray hot wax.
- Let it cool fully before moving it. The vessel stays hot and the wax stays liquid for a while.
- Refresh & reuse — once the wax hardens, bury the hard wax or flip the wick over and give it a shuffle to flatten it out. New candle, zero waste.
When to stop
Stop burning when about 1cm of wax remains at the bottom — the vessel can overheat below that. Scoop in fresh pearls and start again.
Pets & children
- Cats: some fragrances and essential oils can affect cats over long exposure. Burn in a ventilated room and keep candles out of reach.
- Dogs & children: treat a lit candle like a hot stove — out of reach, never unattended.
If something goes wrong
- Smoking: wick too long — extinguish, trim, relight.
- Tiny flame, small pool: wick too short — let it build, or set a fresh wick.
- Vessel cracks: stop immediately, let it cool, dispose carefully. Email us a photo.
What it's made of
- Wax: sand wax pearls (palm wax).
- Wick: cotton, lead-free.
